A Change of Era or Temporary Chaos? The US Economy on the Tightrope

US economic policy in 2025 has generated unusual volatility that has impacted both financial markets and international relations. This uncertainty is reflected in sharp fluctuations in the stock market, rising bond yields, and changing perceptions of a possible recession. This instability affects not only the US but the global economic system, given the centrality of its currency and markets. Factors such as tariff policy, deficit control, and attempts to reorganize the public sector have raised doubts and divided opinions among economists.

Five major axes will shape the future: tariffs and their possible “escalation to de-escalation” strategy, pressure from the bond market, the conflict between economic and national security interests, other countries’ response to the loss of US credibility, and corporate behavior in the face of this new reality. Ultimately, more than a simple temporary crisis, the situation could be revealing a structural transformation of the world economic order.

The outlook is uncertain: we could be facing a positive reconfiguration that brings greater productivity and stability, or a dangerous fragmentation of global trade. In any case, the world needs to prepare for a prolonged period of uncertainty, where resilience and adaptability will be key.
