Pandemic Times: 10 New “Normals” in the World of Work

The health emergency was perhaps the strongest driver of remote work; this acceleration of teleworking was accompanied not only by a change in the way of working but also in the normalization of scenes that were previously seen as a lack of formality at work.

For example, today it is normal to hear some children and family cross and scream while you are in a work meeting. Likewise, the way of dressing we also began to see it relaxed because people like to be more comfortable at home. Also, it is normal to get used to the barking of the dogs or the ambient sounds of the street during a videoconference.

In this article, we mention the new “normalities” in the world of work

1.Digitization and new ways of doing things

Digital transformation has shown that tasks can be done differently. For example, medical consultations are carried out by videoconference, since telemedicine has moved on and has become a natural dynamic. The advance of digitization is accompanied by an evolution in the way of doing things because it allows executing tasks that were previously more complicated to carry out and more confidence was generated in these new dynamics.

2.Is it necessary to go to the office?

Organizations must determine exactly the tasks that people will perform on the days with face-to-face activities. Since to go to the office it has to be for an important activity that cannot be done from home.

 3.Hybrid training schemes

Education may not be the same after the pandemic and at least once a year. Remote learning is prioritized during the week. This trend toward flexibility is an opportunity for the development of digital competencies, which have a key role in the future of work. The entire team must be trained regarding the digitization and other skills necessary for each area.

 4.Adaptable flexibility for everyone

Businesses should consider how they can flexibly accommodate this workforce who does not aspire to work remotely, starting with being closer to them to know your needs.

 5.Reduced corporate travel

Part of the new normal will be traveling for experiences and not for business.  Now, business trips could be solved by “zoom” or by another video-conferencing application. This is a scenario that will probably affect the hotel industry the most focused on corporate travel and, therefore, it is necessary to transform the models of business.

 6.Vacancies around the world

The acceleration of remote work also opened the door to job opportunities at the level global, regardless of the country where you live. “The job market in the world,” he said, Julieta Manzano. This means that a computer and the internet connection can open the doors to a universe of jobs in different parts.

 7.Greater robotization of tasks

If before the pandemic there was already constant talk about automation and digitization of jobs, after the health emergency this will be a more natural conversation. The Robotization of tasks will continue to increase, especially of those repetitive activities. This implies a realignment of the workforce and therefore, the importance of training and constant training of collaborators to differentiate themselves from creations of the automation.

 8.New forms of leadership

“We need different leaders, that the leadership is much more connected and modern”, stressed the specialist. The construction of a new work model, the implementation flexible policies and the incorporation of new generations into the labor market are just a few factors that emphasize the need for a transformation of leadership.

 9.Focus on mental health

The pandemic and its effects on the economy and mobility unleashed a health crisis mental. Mexico ranks first among the countries of the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OECD) in anxiety levels and third in depression.

1o.Constant changes in new federal regulations

Labor regulations have modified the rules of the game about labor relations work and it is likely that in 2022 legislative activity will continue in this regard. The changes in the rules are aspects that organizations should not ignore and from the Human Resources areas have to analyze the strategies to comply in time and form with the new provisions.
